Description
Unique estate in one of the best locations around Florence, with stunning views of the city and the surrounding hills. Ideal for weddings, as boutique hotel, or luxurious family estate.
Villa Montefiano, also known as Villa Manetti, stands in the hills of Fiesole, close to the church of San Michele a Muscoli. Its elevated position offers wide views over the surrounding valleys, including Florence, Fiesole, Monte Senario, and the Mugnone.
The site has medieval origins, when a fortified tower house occupied this location. In the 16th century, the building was significantly expanded into a villa, possibly under the direction of Bernardo Buontalenti, architect and engineer at the court of the Medici. Several architectural elements, such as vaulted interiors, stone detailing, and original openings, still reflect this
period.
Throughout the centuries, the villa has changed hands among noble and prominent families, including the Mancini family, whose coat of arms remains visible on the façade. In later centuries, it took on various roles, from rural residence to country retreat. Local tradition holds that the American financier J.P. Morgan once stayed here during his travels in Tuscany.
The estate has long been associated with both agricultural and ornamental uses. Alongside the main house, the grounds developed into a classic example of a Tuscan villa garden, combining elements of formal Italian style with the softer, more natural lines typical of the English tradition. The presence of features such as a mosaic grotto, a limonaia, and a panoramic loggia reflects the estate’s layered and evolving character.
