During our search for a house in Italy, we soon came across properties that were being auctioned. However, information on these was scarce, and after several unanswered requests for more details, we finally decided to “just” buy a house on the regular market.
Once we lived in Italy, I couldn't let go of the phenomenon of auction houses. With more than 15 years of experience in the financial markets, where the motto “if it sounds too good to be true, it is” almost always holds true, I thought this would also be the case here.
Nevertheless, I decided to research further and actively seek out people with experience in this area. This revealed that buying a house at auction is quite common in Italy. Over 10,000 properties are auctioned every month, and many Italians know someone who has bought a house this way.
The more people I spoke to, the more my initial scepticism gave way to enthusiasm. I spoke to lawyers, court representatives and people who were themselves involved in auction proceedings.
Ultimately, all parties involved benefit from a good return from an auction, and gradually courts are starting to promote auctions more actively. In Italy, consultancies are springing up like mushrooms, but outside Italy the phenomenon is still largely unknown.
I decided to collaborate with an experienced lawyer, who has been guiding Italians in buying property at auction for more than 10 years. This forms a good combination with my drive to find the best deals, and so the foundation for this website was laid.
Meanwhile, we can also be used as buying agents when buying property on the regular market and you can come to us for general questions and specific issues about living and buying in Italy.
We work intensively with established local estate agents, geometra, agronomist, lawyer, engineer, architects, translators and contractors. Every question can be answered by an expert.
Feel free to contact us, we will be very happy to help you with your search for an (auction) house or investment property in Italy!
